Petfood Manufacturer Facility – 3D Laser Scanning & Digital Modeling
Overview
A Petfood Manufacturer required an accurate digital representation of key areas within their facility to support future planning, engineering, and operational improvements. With limited existing documentation and complex industrial infrastructure, the client needed a precise and reliable way to understand their facility’s current conditions. Our team provided advanced 3D laser scanning and modeling services to capture the facility in detail and deliver accurate digital assets that could be used for planning, measurement, and design.
The Challenge
A Petfood Manufacturer needed detailed spatial and structural information for defined areas of their facility. The goal was to produce a high-accuracy point cloud dataset and detailed 3D model representing the existing conditions of the building. The project required:
- Capturing accurate measurements across three floors and the roofline
- Documenting architectural, structural, and equipment elements
- Producing usable digital models and drawings for planning and engineering
- Delivering tools that allow the client to easily review and measure the facility remotely
Traditional manual measurements would have been time-consuming, disruptive to operations, and less precise.
The Solution
Our team deployed on-site 3D laser scanning technology to capture the facility’s existing conditions with high precision
On-Site 3D Laser Scanning
A comprehensive 1SG site visit was conducted where advanced laser scanners collected millions of data points representing the building environment. The scanning covered:
- Three facility floors
- Roofline and structural components
- Equipment areas and processing infrastructure
The scanning process generated a detailed point cloud dataset, creating an accurate digital representation of the facility
Digital Modeling (LOD 3)
Using the collected point cloud data, our team developed a Level of Detail (LOD 3) 3D model of the facility. The model included:
- Walls and floors
- Doors and windows
- Ceilings and mezzanines
- Stairs and architectural elements
- Structural components (beams, columns, trusses, and bracing)
- Process equipment ducting
- Process conveying piping
This model provided a clear, comprehensive view of the facility’s layout and infrastructure.
Deliverables
The Petfood Manufacturer received a full suite of digital assets to support their planning and engineering needs:
Reality Cloud Interactive Viewer
A web-based platform allowing users to explore the facility through the point cloud model and take measurements.
Point Cloud Data (RCP format)
Raw high-accuracy scanning data for engineering and modeling applications
LOD 3 3D Model
A detailed model generated from the point cloud dataset
Technical Drawings
• Plan views • Elevations • Isometric drawings All drawings were delivered in PDF and AutoCAD formats.
Results & Client Benefits
The project provided Petfood Manufacturer with a reliable digital foundation for future facility planning and engineering projects. Key benefits included:
- Highly accurate documentation of existing conditions
- Improved ability to plan renovations and equipment layouts
- Reduced need for repeated site visits and manual measurements
- Clear visualization of complex structural and equipment systems
Client Feedback
“The deliverables were exceptionally accurate and easy to follow. Your team delivered exactly what we asked for.”
